Adult acne cure

Has anyone got any tips for gettig rid of troublesome acne from neck, chest and back. I took Dianette for years and it completely did the trick, but I am finally hormone and medicine free, have been for a while now, so would rather be using something topical. Whenever I have gone to docs about it, they recommend a long dose of antibiotics but I never got on with them and some cream they gave me, bleached my clothes.

Ta for any advice

Hi I stopped taking Dianette about 6 months ago - and it's taking my skin ages to balance out. Hang in there though, as mine is improving (slowly). I'm using dermalogica products, and have swapped to oil-free foundation.

    I'm using:

Clinique antibacterial soap bar (bought with points) :D

Prescribed topical antibiotics - can't recall the name off the top of my head but it's quite a new antibiotic, you mix a powder up with the solvent and it smells vinegary. It's watery rather than a cream - it dries on the skin.
Since I've been using it I've noticed an improvement.

I also came off the pill a while ago - the doc had put me on one which would supposedly help my skin, but when I came off it I noticed no change! I have since been told it wasn't the right one for skin problems.

Have you been to acne.org yet? They have a lot of good suggestions.

  • Thanks, don't think I've looked at that site no.

I go in stages of looking everywhere online to get some help with this, then I just forget it, but it really gets you down eh? Seems worse now at age 38 than any other time in my life, never had trouble as a teen.

    Really unfair methinx!

When I was younger and had classic bad teenage skin, my mum used to threaten to take me to the doctor about it, and I ended up seeing it as the ultimate humiliation. (I was never taken) I'm 31 now and only went to the doctor about my skin for the first time this year. As a result, my biggest problem is the scarring. (That's another story!)

It's a big relief to speak to a sympathetic GP and try something that actually seems to help. Acne is such a horrible thing.

  • sorry to hear about your scarring, I have a friend who is thinking over undergoing some kind of acid peel type thing, on her face.

It has to be hormonal eh? I'm sick of my raging hormones, making me a mentalist for half of every month plus having embarrassing skin (I never let my partner see my top half nekkid!)

I meant to say - i think diet does impact on my skin. I try to limit dairy products - and booze makes my skin much, much worse. I take the perfectil platinum supplements too - they're pricey, but I but them on 3 for 2 from boots.com and wait until I can get lots of points back. I also take evening primrose for the week of my period. You have to take a high dose though - at least 2000mg.

    Adult acne is a bummer - I'm 34!!!!!
